Laser Hair Removal in San Antonio — IPL at THEIA
Long-term hair reduction with TDLR-certified professionals.

About IPL Laser Hair Removal
Considered care, calibrated to you.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) delivers long-term hair reduction by targeting the melanin inside the hair follicle, disabling its ability to regrow while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. At THEIA in Stone Oak, laser hair removal in San Antonio is performed by TDLR-certified laser professionals. We treat the face (upper lip, chin, sideburns), underarms, arms, chest, back, bikini and Brazilian, and full legs. Pulse settings, fluence and skin cooling are calibrated to your Fitzpatrick skin type and hair thickness at every visit, so darker or thicker hair gets stronger settings while sensitive areas stay comfortable. A standard course is six to eight sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, timed to catch each hair in its active growth (anagen) phase. Most patients see a 70–90% permanent reduction after a complete series, with occasional maintenance sessions once or twice a year.

Questions
Frequently asked.
How much does laser hair removal cost in San Antonio?
Pricing at THEIA is per-area and includes the full recommended series, so you don't pay session-by-session. Common areas: upper lip, chin, underarms, bikini line, Brazilian, half-legs, full-legs, back. Multi-area packages carry a discount. Your exact cost is confirmed at your complimentary consultation — no hidden fees.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients complete 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles (anagen, catagen, telogen) and IPL only affects hairs in the active anagen phase — which is why spacing and completion of the full series matter for permanent results.
Is IPL safe for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick V–VI)?
IPL performs best on Fitzpatrick I–IV. For darker skin tones, we assess individually and may recommend an alternative modality (such as Nd:YAG laser) or an adjusted protocol. Your safety comes before the sale — if IPL isn't right for your skin, we'll tell you at consultation.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most patients describe a warm 'rubber-band snap' sensation. Our integrated cooling handpiece makes it far more tolerable than waxing. Numbing cream is available on request for sensitive areas like the bikini or upper lip.
IPL vs laser hair removal — what's the difference?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad spectrum of light and is highly effective on lighter skin tones with darker hair — the majority of our San Antonio patients. Traditional lasers (diode, alexandrite, Nd:YAG) use a single wavelength and are chosen for specific skin/hair combinations. At consultation we recommend the modality best suited to you.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
The FDA-accurate term is 'permanent hair reduction.' Most patients achieve 70–90% permanent reduction after a full series. Some hairs remain and may regrow finer/lighter over years; annual maintenance sessions handle those.
Can I do laser hair removal while pregnant?
No. We defer treatment until after pregnancy and breastfeeding out of an abundance of caution — there is not enough safety data.
What should I do before and after each session?
Before: shave 24 hours prior, no waxing or plucking for 2 weeks, no sun exposure or self-tanner for 2 weeks, no photosensitizing medications. After: avoid sun for 48 hours, use SPF 50+ daily on treated areas, no hot showers/saunas/pools for 24 hours, no scrubbing or actives for 48 hours.
